Fermat’s spiral
Menelaus, late 1st century; Pierre de Fermat, 1636
The spiral r² = a²θ, whose two arms meet at the centre and divide the plane into two equal regions. Each turn adds the same area, so the turns crowd closer as they go out.
r = ±a√φ
